Digital Citizenship Tips

Our students are learning about online communication and etiquette. Here are some prompts to help you continue the conversation at home:

  • What is the difference between face-to-face and online conversations? When would it be better to talk to someone in person rather than texting or posting something online?
  • Why should you ask permission before posting a photo or video of someone else online?
  • How do you avoid other online distractions (games, browsing other websites, etc.) while doing schoolwork online?

Want ideas for supporting digital citizenship in your home? Follow your school, LPS Library Services, or #lpsdigcit on social media to get weekly tips. Or find the whole collection here: https://home.lps.org/libraries/digital-citizenship/

Book Recommendations

Students were able to provide book recommendations as part of our Read S’More books display in the month of September. Students who participated, received a S’More treat and had their recommendation and corresponding book on display. We loved hearing about what they were reading and what they had to say to persuade others to read the same book. New books also arrived in September — new fiction day is always an exciting time!

Announcements

Synergy

ParentVUE – the LPS Parent PortalSynergy ParentVUE is the “one-stop shop” for information about your student’s teachers and classes. In addition to providing parents/guardians secure access to student grades and assignments (secondary), attendance, and class information, ParentVUE is also the avenue to verify student enrollment in LPS. During the school year, parents can submit absences for their student(s) with just a few clicks! (see below) Parents of secondary students can also pay fees (Chromebook fines, yearbooks, etc.) via ParentVUE.

The District’s goal is to ensure at least one parent/guardian per household has activated and uses their ParentVUE account. If you haven’t yet acquired an account, please contact the school office for an activation key at 402-436-1187.

More information about ParentVUE can be found on our school home page under the ParentVUE button.

  • Save time: Report student absences via ParentVUE
    • You can save yourself a phone call by using ParentVUE to report full-day absences (partial day absences still require a call to the school office to specify what time the student will be gone). There is also a place to add a note if more explanation or details are needed. The attendance office will view and process the information you enter.
  • If using the ParentVUE app (phones & tablets):
    • Select the appropriate student and click the blue “Report Absence” button to enter the date(s) and reason for the absence(s).
  • If using ParentVUE via the web:
    • Toggle to the appropriate student in the upper left hand corner. Next, click on the Attendance button and then the blue “Report Absence” button to enter the absence.

Bully Prevention Month

October is bully prevention awareness month. To reinforce the importance of bully prevention, the LPS Strategic Plan supports student and staff wellbeing and outcomes as priority areas.  Our LPS Anti-Bullying Policy commits to providing physically safe and emotionally secure environments for all students and staff.  To support this policy, bully prevention is taught through a variety of content areas and opportunities.  In addition, all LPS middle and high schools have a Hope Squad.  Hope Squad members are respectful and empathetic UPSTANDERS who aim to connect their peers to a trusted adult who can help. Our continued focus is to increase awareness of bully prevention and provide opportunities for students to apply self awareness, social awareness and responsible decision making skills.  We are #strongertogether as we stand against bullying.

Thank you for your continued support with bully prevention efforts in Lincoln Public Schools.  Below are resources for families about bully prevention.
